Don’t miss our annual NYSEC Educators of Excellence and Kenneth Gambone Writing contest awards celebration along with a featured local author presentation by Scott Starkey, author of How to Beat the Bully Without Really Trying, The Call of the Bully, and Revenge of the Bully, at Captain Bill’s scenic waterfront setting.
You are cordially invited to attend LILAC’s 2018-2019 “Winter Professional Development and Networking Event.” This year, we are pleased to offer “Inquiry and Research: Developing Great Questions and Using Reliable Sources.” In addition to this professional development workshop, last year’s mini-grant winners will present the programs which the mini-grants supported. The keynote workshop entitled, “Inquiry and Research: Developing Great Questions and Using Reliable Sources” will be presented by Victor Jaccarino, ELA Consultant and Ed Schmieder, English Chair at Sayville Schools. During this workshop presented by two LILAC Past Presidents, participants will focus on two shifts in how we teach research. The Next Generation Standards emphasize the need to develop inquiry questions and work with reliable sources. The presenters will address both issues and will explore the concept of “fake news.”
